OK so I've heard this before but there is no answer that I see anywhere that fits my specific problem.

My 94 4runner V6 2WD has always run fine in the 4 months ive had it, except when we tried to take it up the mountains to go boarding. I would constantly overheat going up any kind of hill about every mile or so. So like i was told I replaced the fan clutch 1st. Next time i went it over heated so bad it busted the main hose wide open. So again as I was told I replaced the water pump and even added a new thermostat for good measure aloong with the new hose. And just to be sure before I went this past weekend I flushed the radiator properly to be safe. So what happens about 2 miles up the mountain? Over heats again.

I cannot freaking figure out why this thing will not stop overheating going up a hill. I will admit the radiator still looks a little rusty, but from what I'm told that shouldn't be causing it that bad. For the love of God someone please tell me what is wrong with this thing or i'm going to have to sell it and get a Chevy to get me there.

 

The only thing I can think of is that something is clogged up somewhere. Does it overheat when you're on a flat road after a period of time or does it run fine until you hit a hill?

I thought about that but wouldn't that make it happen even on flat terrain?

 

Yeah, it'd constantly overheat if something was stopped up bad. I'm really curious to see what the problem is cuz that does seem to be a very strange problem.

What about your headgasket? The extra load of traveling up a mountain could be enough to mess up your head gasket. Are you loosing coolant, and check your oil cap and see if it looks milky on he grooves. That would help determine if your headgasket is leaking.

 

Mechanic told me there was no water in my oil so my gasket should be fine.

 

lol well it seems like your head gasket. because mine would only overheat when there was a load on it. was my head. might also be your radiator. or it might need a complete internal flush of everything. oil coolant and i would run alot of radiator cleaner in it. if it still does it maybe you need to check out why only on loads going up hills. losing power working to hard to get up it and are you romping on it up the hill.

 

First things first: Pressure test your cooling system and your cap. Don't do anything else until you do that!
