Overheating issue..weird one too

okay..so the past few weeks..when i drive my '86 (22R) after it's been sitting for more than a couple hours (long enough for it to cool down all the way) i start it up..and as i'm driving it will start to heat up normal..then it will start climbing up to the red..it never goes above the top white line..but after a little bit of driving it just slowly starts to come back down...and if i flip the switch a couple times from recirculate back to letting air flow in from the outside (..can't remember the name lol) it will start to come down...idk it's weird to me.

thermostat?

radiator problem?

heater hose problem?

bad fan clutch?

add a pusher electric fan in front of the raditator.. (keep it cool)

use a laser thermostate and check that way while running

could be a sticky thermostat.
clutch fan working properly?
how old is the radiator?
have you been messing with the cooling system lately? or did it just start doing this out of the blue?

out of the blue Toyota 1..

and when it got REALLY cold..(single digits..which is cold in oklahoma) the thermostat did stick close..i guess it was cuz i had a LITTLE bit too much water in my coolant mix..i drained some out and put in 100% antifreeze and problem solved..lol

Sounds exactly like the sticking thermostat problem common with the 22r/e.
New 'stat, stat!
