I've heard the same but never have seen one. I put a '94 toy bed on my '88 and I've been real happy with it. If you go with the ford bed make sure to post some build pics. I don't think there are any on the forum related to the ford bed swap.

Good luck!

From: Nashville TN. I can help you if you're close BUT NOBODY CAN HELP YOU IF YOU DON'T FILL YOUR LOCATION IN!
know anybody with a buzzbox?

I can't imagine a flatbed running more than $200... And it won't have a goofy chevy bed on it...

what happened to yours? I didn't know 89-94's had problems other than if the exhaust tip broke off and somebody didn't get it fixed...

I took Dingo's advice and upgraded to a 92 bed.

I would not consider the swap I did straight forward since I had the frame backhalved with a solid axle single cab frame...One of the bed mounts from the old frame was way off from where the 92 bed was, so I had it lopped off and re-welded so that I can use any bed from that era. Not sure how the original 86 frame matched up.

I'm very happy with the results...Body lines actually match up pretty decent. Plus the later beds are much easier to find and have tie down hooks built in.

I will say, getting the new bed off the garage floor and ON the truck without the use of a friend, cherry picker or any time of lifting device was a BITCH! FYI wiring all matched up with the newer style tail lights.

1986 Toyota 4x4 extended cab.
Rear half of the frame from an early 80s truck.
Bed from a 92

Quite the jumble of bits!

I'd have to agree with tried4 on this one. If you have the ability and the resources then I'd go with a flat bed. I've always liked the way those things look. If not then I'd source a Toyota bed (sounds like you've already done a lot of looking and have come up empty). Last resort is a bed off of something else and I've seen a Chevy Luv bed on a Yota but it looked funky.

What ever you decide please do a write up. Have fun.
