Help my 22r turns over but wont start

Well a couple of weeks ago i jump started my truck and then started driving it ... everything got real dim and it shut off and wouldnt start ...i figured it was the battery so i took the battery to advance and got it charged ... i put it back in the truck and the truck sounds like it wants to start ... i pulled the plugs and it isnt getting any spark ... i checked the plug wires and made sure everything was plugged in correctly ... does anyone have any other ideas before i buy a new coil pack?

it sounds like its the igniter. It is what the coil pack is mounted to. I have never seen a coil pack go bad in these trucks, bt they won't even pop start with a bad igniter. Search the junk yards. They are expensive.

make sure the igniter is grounded to the fender good as well. the thing generates all of the spark so a good ground on the side of the fender is important. Some year celicas used the same igniter assembly, even some 90 series ran carbs and used the same unit. If you know anyone with another carbed toy you can swap in their igniter and find out if that is the problem real quick. just remember to bolt it to the fender or it won't ground. Good luck.

Look at the plug ends of the igniter are they the standard green ends that are more or less round with a flat side? or are they square?

After the changeover to EFI the igniter design changed. It has to be a carburated model.

Oh yeah....also pull your distributor cap and the rotor underneath that and take a real close look at the pickup coil that is inside the distributor under the rotor; make sure the gap is set right (between .004 and .008 if I recall correctly) between the pickup coil and the contact prongs on the distributor shaft. Mine was a little bit corroded once and I had NO SPARK until I cleaned and adjusted it.

check for spark on the lead wire coming from the igniter to the distributor cap. If there is no spark and everything else is working, then it's the culprit.

NOT TRUE! That igniter WILL NOT fire if the pickup coil inside the distributor doesn't tell it to. (no disrespect, just sayin) I know this because I've been there done that.

make sure the plug wire in the coil is all the the coil itself. i had this happen to me once. plugs cant get spark if the coil isnt giving it to them...
