Unhappy 88 22re wont start

Just changed the timming cover on my 22 water was getting in the oil when I took it apart I saw that the timeing chain had been replaced so left it as it was now that I put everything back together the truck won't start and when I start it it it makes a pop noice and smoke comes out the throttle body but when I start it directy with the key in off position and spray starting fluid in the throttle body it starts normal untill the fluid runs out...so what's wrong really stumped and don't know what to do...

IIRC, with the #1 at TDC I believe, the dizzy should be positioned at like 10 or 11 o'clock because it's going to turn a bit as it engages splines to the 12 o'clock position. Check your FSM to make sure...
