tricking 3.0 ecu?

i know the 3.0 sucks when it comes to power. i noticed mines has a lot of power first thing in the morning when engine is cold. is there anyway to trick the computer so it thinks the engine is cold and richens up the gas? also, this is intermitent but i forget the code, but every now and then only when i take long drives, the engine light comes on. i remember the code had something to do with fuel too lean. an sometimes during the long drives, the light goes away.

but my main question is about tricking the ecu. maybe some kind of resistor or something. mahalos in advance.

You could yank the thermostat out so it doesn't warm up quickly, but I really wouldn't. And your MPG would really take a hit too. I would really weigh the pros and cons of doing this. I can tell you if it was mine, I would just get exhaust and call it good.

You REALLY need to pull your code, research it and fix what's causing it. You may find that your power when warm comes back.

ok it was code 25. but even without the engine light on, it still lacking power when the engine warms up. i like it in the morning because you can really feel the power difference especially when pulling out at the intersection. even with the ac on, its has way more power vs. ac off while engine is hot.

A richened up mixture would make your truck slower, if anything I would look into the VAFM spring mod to lean the mixture out a few clicks and depending on what octane gasoline your running, advance the timing. I am running 4 clicks lean on the flapper door and 18* bdtc on my ignition timing, I am running 93 Octane though

Code 25 is a lean condition too I just checked, I would check for leaks after the VAFM or anywhere else un metered air could possibly be entering at. Check the upper plenum for leaks, lower intake, vacuum hoses etc.

Mine seems to have the opposite problem... it's more sluggish when it is cold. But it's not exactly quick after it warms up either

Yep, its gotta be a vacuum leak. I had mine throw two codes after the headgasket got replaced. One of them was 25, and I think the other one was 26? I was getting a lean, and rich code. It was running like crap, until I figured out one of my vacuum lines was disconnected. Also, my spark plug wires were hanging down on my headers and melting, so that didn't help.

check your tube that connects your air cleaner to your throttle body. Mine had a huge crack underneath where you couldn't see it. remove it and inspect it carefully. That will cause you to throw a lean code if unmetered air is getting in.

ok ill try tweak on it. whats wierd though is the engine lite comes on and goes off intermittently. no need to clear any codes. oh i noticed on the afm, theres a lil aluminum plug dat looks like theres a screw adjustment under it. anybody know what that screw is for?

Thats not how the codes work. It comes on when a code condition exists, the condition may but the code stays in memory. clearThe more often you see it, the more often the condition is occuring.
