We blew the bottom end out of the Ol 22R today, out fartin round Denver. Oil pressure guage line blew and the oil spewed out. Figured this will be a good place to start a whole new build. What I have planned: 66-77 Ford Bronco Leaf springs all around, new U-joints, bolted in chairs (currently not secured), bumpers and sliders, herculiner interrior, possible webber. Thats all I have for now, I'm sure there will be more to add!

 

Finally found the time to take the engine out tonight. Took the oil pan off and found plenty of crank bearing shards, the oil had that horrible burnt smell. I will get it torn down in the morning to see what the final verdict is on how I wand to proceed (rebuild or new short block or even a donor). Will see tomorrow!!!!

Alrighty. Its been six months since we have even thought about fixin the truck. We decided yesterday that gettin her back on the road would be for the best. Started assembly today got almost all of the way done. The block was already in it, all we had to do was the head, intake and all of the final assembly. We also installed a LC Eng. EGR delete kit.

We will finish the rest off tomorrow. The head and intake is installed, the valves are adjusted, new plugs are in. All we have left is hookin up all of the wires, add coolant, timing, firing her up. OOOH I can't wait!!!!

Well, I've some bad news. We bought a bad short block. the water ports are FULL of rust. We got the truck started and it blew a heat gasket right away. Needless to say we are not happy at all. 302 Ford maybe?

 

Its been a while. Since we have had my 87 my dad hasn't really had the need to rebuild the good ol 85. But with heightened fuel prices we have started to build it up again. The block was bad and has to be replaced or rebuilt by the company who we bought it from. I pulled it out of the truck yesterday and tore it down today.



I don't know whose header this is. It came with the truck when we bought it in '03.

Haha definitly. These ones are reeely bad though. Its caused the head to warp, a brand new upper radiator hose to rupture. Its terrible. I think he wants to swap in a 302 Ford. I looked up the NWOR bellhousing kit and it seems pretty feasible.

Got a new motor!! We squeezed it out of the guys down at APR. I will share some pics later. Pretty excited for the old man to get his truck back! It should be up and runnin sometime this week. WOOOOOOO!!!!!

Thats all that I got done yesterday, due to the lack of the timing cover gasket. Went to the auto parts store and got a Fel Pro gasket kit for it. Now to getter done.

 

congrats, rock makes some real good gaskets. now just in case did you put a stright edge to the block to make for sure it was not warped? Just as a precaution. APR finally did somthing right. Still won't ever buy an engine from them though. Looks good to go though nice work.

 

Yeah, I checked everything. It all looks good. The only reason we went with them again was cuz they wanted to settle out.
