Can anyone help to identify this frame that my buddy has on blocks in his yard. We know it is a landcrusier frame but that is all we know about . He has kept it out of the dirt & paints it every so often to prevent it from rusting. It has hardly any surface rust, very good condition.

Here is what I can tell by looking at it, it is a 4x4 frame, solid axles & leaf springs front & rear, manual locking hubs, 6 lug & drum drakes all around. Both the front & rear axles are offset from center. I measured from center of axle to center of axle & it is 89". The axles are 55-1/4" long fron face of brake drum to face of brake drum. In hide sight I should have counted the revolutions of the drive flange to determine the gear ratio, I will do that very soon & update you guys.

Does anyone know what year range of landcruiser it could be? I am interested in either keeping the front axle to SAS my 86 4runner or trade it off for other parts that I need, might be willing to just sell it out right, but I wish I knew more about it. Any help indetifying it would be very much appreciated. Here are a few pics.

Well, it will either be a 69-77 if you've got the large knuckles or a pre 69 if they have the small knuckles.

Without measuring its hard to tell, but from what I can see its probably a pre 69, with the small knuckles. They have ball and claw style inner front axles and no birfs. I would not use it for a SAS.

 

You know... just post this on Ih8mud.... i almost bet they will give you an exact year from looking at it.

 

Thanks man, I have pretty much decided against using it for an SAS. I can try to measure the knuckles, but not sure where to measure to & from.

 

Its a pre 76 FJ40 frame and axles. Some 75's had drums, some had discs though. They are small patern knuckles (steering arm bolt pattern), not small knuckles. Based on the hubs it is not likey a ball and claw front axle. The front passenger side frame rail will have a vin number stamped in the outside just below and to the rear of the of the tow hook.

Diff ratio is most likely 4:10 but could have been changed at some point.

You could upgrade to minitruck or 60 series knuckles and discs on that axle housing. I would recommend a complete 60 series axle. If you are going to wheel hard it is the way to go. Save you stripping mini truck ring and pinions.
