I don't think there are rear seats in the older trucks. The extra cab space was ment for storage I think.

i remember riding in the back of my dad's old 2nd gen xcab. Even as a kid it was cramped. I've sat in the back of my 93 just to see what it was like and boy is it cramped!

Since you've already got a truck, why not look into a 1st gen 4runner? Plenty of space for car seat, space for when they grow up, and the top comes off! Quad cab Tacomas are something to think about too.

I can barely put my gun cases behind my seats. Ended up putting bucket seats in just to mount the car seat in the back between them because my daughter loves to ride. Daddy's little girl, and she turned 3 yesterday.

my little girl will be 4 in june plus my little boy is only a year so when i have to take the kids somewhere he is in the passenger seat, and its a little to cramped with both car seats in the front lol..i'm guessing an older pickup wont work for me.i am considering a 4 runner too really just looking for any ext cab or 4 runner around $2000 dont want to pay too much for something when i have 2 pickups in the yard that i will have one on the road in the spring. just seems all i can find in my price right now is older pickups or junk.i checked out a guys 85 ext cab the other day and he has seats that flip down from the side but next to no room back there.

I have an 87 pickup ext cab, in the back is just a platform maybe 8-10 inches wide. Between that and the back of the seats is only a few inches, not big enough to fit even a small kid back there. And of course there are no seatbelts. But hey, it is big enough for a couple nice speakers and fishing gear!

There was never an option for a rear seat in the extra cab trucks through 1988. There was a Toyota truck with the "Custom Cab" option but it was an aftermarket modification, and they are fairly rare.

Makes me wonder if it's possible to mod in ranger extended cab style rear seats.

My 88 DLX ext cab had a seat

Actually, I have an 88 DLX extended cab 4x4. It has the same platform that the other guy put in the picture, but it also has an upholstered cushion over it that matches the front seat. I have a 4 year old and a 5 year old, and they can sit back there ONLY if the front seats are all the way up, and unless you are only 5 foot tall, that just doesn't work. We put them there once in an emergency, but will never do it by choice. Plus, no seat belts. I agree, just not feasable.
