86 4runner tranny problems?

Hi, Just bought a 864runner DLX with Auto 4 speed. Let me say first this site rocks. My tranny when cold is starting out in 3rd gear. I have browsed the forum over and over. From what I can tell I need to check the solenoids? I am going to drop the pan and replace the filter and fluids as well as check the solenoids. Just wondering if anyone has any good advice. Thanks! Gonna try the mobile one synthetic as well see if that helps.

If its a solenoid(which it sounds like it is), then a fluid change is a complete waste of $$$ since you will have to do it again anyway. Order the three pack of solenoids and swap them at the same time. Its a simple job and will make the tranny work like new again. Here is a link to sources where they can be purchased.

No. Standard fluid will be sufficient. If it was a new tranny, then I would say go ahead, but you want to keep the current fluid properties in the tranny IMO.
