Do you have to re-gear for 35s?

DO you have to re gear for 35s? I have 31s on a 92 4runner right now. What would happen if i put 35s on the stock diffs? Has anyone ever heard of someone not re gearing their diffs for 35s? Does it really cost like 1 grand for the master install set and 300 per diff wrench price to install them? I want to gear my truck out for offroading but all that throws my budget way out of wack. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

You do not have to regear. You will want to as soon as you drive it.

It just takes all your power away, not as if we have any to begin with right?

you can get gears and master installs for $500-$600. and you will spend a pretty penny for the installs. make sure whoever does them knows what they are doing.

go with 5.29's with 35's and you'll be happy

you will be a bogged a bit with such large tires I have ran 35-36's on 4.10's not to great in the wheel spin department.

you can regear on the cheap buy just the ring and pinion.....take the 3rds out and bring them to someone who knows how to set up gears...important make sure they know what they are doing...you can use your old bearings as long as they are not thrashed...now reinstall 3rds yourself BAM should cost you around $500-700 total depending on labor to set up gears I did mine for $470 both 3rds I have a guy localy who will set you up for a bill per 3rd

in 92 toyota had 488 gears available in runners and trucks with auto trans check your gears to see what you have if so you wont have to re gear for 35s if not the stock gears are 410s and you will want to re gear for 35s

It'll be pretty hard on the IFS to have 35's on there. You won't have to re-gear but its porobably a good idea. A good looking tire would be a 33, then it woulnd't rob as much power

in dallas craigslist there is a set of 5.XX gears under parts, just type in toyota gear
I ran 33, 36, and 38 on my truck, if you go bigger than 33 then get some gears and save your tranny some stress, I broke the input shaft.

Factory 4.88s are pretty rare so you probably have 4.10s. Even if you have 4.88s, you should really run 5.29s or 5.71s for 35s. I have 4.88s/33s w/ the 3.4L and would definitely want at least 5.29s if I had 35s. Once you get the tires, I'm sure you'll want to regear soon - you will loose a lot of power.
