SAS for my 94
I am planning on doing a SAS soon on my 94 pickup. I finally found a SA but its about 2 and a half hours away and with my 4.88s and 35s, its not too interstate friendly. I could probably find some Chevy axles locally a lot easier. Anyone have opinions on good axles for the swap that are more common or should I just steal my dads truck and make the drive?

Edit: Solid axle is from an 84. Craiglist ad says he has parts from trucks and 4runners. Not sure if this is from a truck or a 4runner. Would that make a difference? If im thinking right, theyre all leaf spring suspension and interchangeable.

Doesn't matter if its a 4Runner or Pickup in 84, same axle.
Borrow your dad's truck and go get it.

An Fj60 is another option for the front axle. It is wider, has a stronger differential and a FJ80 rear elocker differential will bolt up to it. Because of the bigger differential you loose some clearance and they are spring under so you would have to rework the spring perches.

For me, part of the fun of the build was sourcing parts. The guy on craigslist is not selling the last SA toy axle. Shoot you can find built ones all day on pirate or marlin. If you drive 2.5 hrs for an axle you'll feel obilgated to buy or drive 5hrs for nothing. Shop around.

I currently have a mini truck axle with 6shooters and a hi-pinion elocker. I will be upgrading in two years to a FJ60. The main reason for this to have 61." wide front axle (58" wms to wms + 1.5 spacers) for stability and to have a differential that will hold up better to longs. The elocker from a FJ80 is just a bonus.
The FJ60 would go nice with a ifs rear which is 58" or a tacoma rear 60.75" or a centered FJ80 full floater. It actually surprises me that not more people use them.
