1994 Hilux Rims/Tires question! Please help!

Hello all! This is my first thread here on yotatech! This site delivers an unparalleled amount of information, and I try to search for hours before I post a question like this...

I've just imported a Hilux from Japan and I've got the Fj80 coils, BJ spacers, shocks, drop brackets, ect ready to install. I've decided to buy 295/70(or75)/16 Nitto Terra Grappler tires (they come out to 33.27" x 11.72"). My question has to do with backspacing and offset on the rims i've been keen on; which are the cragar soft 8's 16x8".

I've read on here that 3.75-4.5" of backspacing are required so that you don't hit the A-arm or anything on the inside of the fender wall. However, since my Hilux has the fender flared style body, I'm sort of wanting a bit wider of a stance. Am I able to go with say a 3.5" backspacing to push the rim out a tad, or am I going to be hitting the rear of the flare or the bumper at all? I'm also concerned with turning radius, as I don't want it to be limited because of hitting the inner fender walls or anything of that nature.

I realize that I'm going to have to smash things with a hammer and perhaps grind away at other things; I'm fine with that. I just don't want to have to do any major surgeries.

I really wouldn't ask if I could find the info on here, its just most of you seem to have the non-flare style runners that were offered in the US/CND markets, and I just don't want my runner to look like its got a very narrow stance, and a wide body; that would look awful.

So to recap... anybody have any experience with creating an awesome stance with the fenders that have flares on our lovely 2nd gen runners?
Thanks for the input!
Chad

P.S. Working on posting pics (in the proper section of course) right now !

You might want to do some careful measuring, as described below, to see what sort of tire clearance issues you might have:

nlouvros - I have basically searched the aussie forums and UK forums and have found some good information..

Check out this link https://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html

It gives you the offsets that correspond with the backspacing for rims. On our flare'd versions, running the landcruiser offset of -23 (they run 16x8) seems to fill out wheel wells the best. So depending on how wide of a rim you want, use the chart to decide

I am probably going to run a 15x8 or 16x8 with a 3.75" backspacing, only because the tires I want are fatter then most in the same size. If they weren't, I would run a 3.5".

Let me know what you think!

i run 17x8 with 265/70 which is 31.6 by 10.4 and i have plenty of backspace even without a lift i'm sure your fine with the width of the tire just not the height depending on how much lift you have

so you think there will be more issue with the 33" tall tire rather than the 12.5" wide part?

yea as long as you get the right backspacing, other than that prob a few inches of lift to clear the 33's my backspacing is a -6 with plenty of room to go wider 33's rub on my truck because i lack a lift
