Question Transmission/Driveline banging noise?

This is my first post at yotatech, I've found great help by reading previous threads which have helped me with my truck so thank you to yotatech and it's members.

Anyway I have an '89 Pickup DLX 4x4 22re 5spd. that is making a kind of bangin/thumping noise when I let off the accelerator when it's in gear, no matter what gear it's in. It started doing it a few weeks ago. If I have it in neutral or have the clutch pedal depressed it doesn't make the noise, and it doesn't make the noise when I shift gears. The transmission isn't original to my truck whoever had it before the guy I bought it from replaced it. I can drive the truck in such a way to keep it from making the noise so I'm wondering how big of a problem it is?

I've taken it to a friend of the family who's a mechanic and had the u-joints checked, transmission oil, differential (front & rear) oil, and transfer case oil checked and those were all fine. What I think is that the engine isn't getting enough fuel when I let off the accelerator to match the transmission rotational speed? Does this make sense?

Also on a side note the speedometer doesn't work, my mechanic friend said that the speedo in the truck is set up for electronic sending, and the transmission is set up for a cable driven speedo. He said he thinks the transmission came from an 88 4x4 pickup.

Oh Yeah I almost forgot.........

I finally figured out what the problem was. My rear pinion bearing and seal needed replacing, so my yota is running great now. Just wanted to post my solution in case anyone else had a similar problem maybe this will help them.
