Im assuming that i will need the set up kit to
Also what are you thought on the spool in the back. Im going to be running 34/1050/15's swampers

If it's from All Pro, it's good, proven stuff. I have 5G of their products on the truck- every one is top notch. I did choose Marlin Crawler for my dual cases because Marlin is DA MAN. I believe All Pro sells Prescision R/P gears, they are the best in my opinion.

I used to drive mine on a spool daily- just recently bought another rig for commuting. I put over 30,000 miles of highway, dirt and trail miles on the rig with it. I had a Detroit Locker, disliked so much I put a spool in to replace it.
Impressions:
1. TRACTION, TRACTION, TRACTION
I run 2.5 to 3 rated trails in 2x4
2. It's more predictable than a Detroit in rain, snow, or ice. It's ALWAYS locked, and once you figure out what it takes to drive it in those conditions, is OK, not great, but OK. I hated the wiggle/BANG/clunk of the Detroit
3. TRACTION, TRACTION, TRACTION
4. Save your money- buy an ARB. You'll pay for an ARB in two or three years worth of tires alone. At $188.00 apiece, I burned down 2 sets of tires in 30 months- the first set of BFG's went 16,000 miles before they were TOAST- the current set of MT/R's is at a little less than 1/2 tread in 14,000 miles.
5. TRACTION, TRACTION, TRACTION
6. On road manners are OK- but it is a trail truck, not a street queen. It pushes hard into corners, squalls, bawls, and barks tires every time you turn.
7. Uh, did I mention, TRACTION, TRACTION, TRACTION

I had the arb air lockers in the grand cherokee they are nice, but this is a beater / trail rig. It will only be driven to the trail, and in snow when my wifes car cant go, she is bad about taking the keys to the trooper.
So will the rear end hold the 5:29 gear with a spool and 34's tires. Reason i ask is i broke the hell out of D44 with 35's under the jeep. I know i know its a jeep
Also my toy is a 4 banger.

30,000 miles of use w/ a spool, 5.29's and 35" MT/R's and BFG's. I've been to the Johnson Valley and run Claw Hammer, run the 4 to 4.5 rated stuff off Table Mesa Road north of Phx repeatedly(Upper Raw Deal, The Terminators, Predator) and done to many other 3 to 3.5 rated trails to count.
I use Valvoline semi-Synthetic 75W140 Gear Oil, and change it every 10,000 or so now. Oil is cheap compared to the cost of new gears. Just make sure you get someone who REALLY knows how to setup Toy gears. They have to be done right to hold up well.

Not to disparage All-Pro, they surely have top notch stuff and have gone a long way in pushing our sport forward, but if you are looking for good prices on gears only, specifically Precisions, I got mine at Drivetrain Direct. Great prices, good service, etc.
If you are buying complete thirds, I would still give Drivetrain Direct a look. I got a rear from them and the price was smoking.

That is as much a factor as the parts you choose. I've had my rear gears done twice. The 2nd time I found someone who knew what they were doing and it's made all the difference.

Yea im just looking for the gears and a spool, for that matter i can weld the spider gears. That didnt work on the jeep though so i was thinking of the spool.
whats the lowest gear you all would run with the 22RE 5 speed and 34's? Its not a daily driver or a highway queen so the RPM dont really matter.

5.29's are the lowest practical gear for a Toy- the 5.71's have a tiny oinion and are easily broken.
If your gonna be using the truck as a trail rig w/ very limited highway time, I'd keep the stock 4.10s and get a set 4:1, 4.7:1 or the new 5:1 t'case gears and a dual t'case setup. You have the strength of the stock Ring and Pinion combinded w/ a dual t'case and crawler gears for the trail. Put the low gear set in the stock t'case and leave the doubler stock at 2.28:1. That gives you the opportunity to have a stock low range, a 4:1 ratio (or what ever ratio you get) and a super low combination of the two, 9.12 to 1 w/ the 4:1 setup.

yo!
Hey crawler#976! Speaking of spools. How about spooling my front axle. What's the deal with all of these Jeep guys telling me I won't be able to turn???? Is it just cause they are jealous, cause they have to spend 3 grand on an Atlas to get rid of their full time transfer case. I keep telling them that it's different that their front d-shaft always spins in 2 or 4wd drive. What's the deal. These guys think Detroits up front suck too unless you have an Atlas--"in a jeep". Am I right on this matter??? Or do I just not understand??? What do you think about the front spooled in a yota? By the way, I totally agree that allpro makes some great stuff.

I have a Detroit up front- and yes it is very noticable when turning tight corners. It reduces turning raduis by about half, but for climbing over difficult obsticals, I'm glad to have it. I often use the crawler box in low range and shift between 2x4 and 4x4 as needed in tight turns on "normal" trails. I don't think a spool would act any worse, and they are much stronger.
In fact, the AZ BTG (Bent to Grind) crew has proven that a Detroit is a weak point in a Toy front axle- they break before Long's Superbirfs and All Pro Chromo inner axles. They all use either a spool or welded front diff w/ 4.10 gears. Most of them use a RockRam or other hydraulic assisted steering system. They are running 38 to 42" tires, which put huge loads on axle compontents. They have pretty much taken the Toy axle to the limit, and are looking for other solutions because they cont. to break stuff every trip out. They are now breaking ring and pinions, along with inners and superbirf's

Hey Kerr---Precision is a good gear but I feel that US GEAR is even better. 529 seems extremely popular......just look at how many I have done here recently http://dreamwater.com/zuk/projects.html
crawler#976 is right on the money about the actual gear install making all the difference in the world.
