Evans Creek 11/21

We left the house a little later than planned but I wanted to change the oil and had the girls do most of the preloading work. We took the back entrance to Evans to avoid the passenger cars the flood the forest road looking for snow. We decided to run the #520 to the top but that changed when when we go to the top half of the trail. The trail was getting slick tires weren't getting good traction. So we turned back and headed down. We self extracted twice, the first time a group from NW assisted. Don't think they believed that my 9&11 y/o duaghters could manage a tree strap and clovice. The second time was much more dramatic as the rear tires were sliding off the trail, up there the trail is about all there is. So we winched out and tied off a slider to a side anchor just in case. We made it out without incident. Didn't take any pics of the trail or winching as all hands were busy. The NW guys were riding modded Suzukis that made short work of the trail. Might have been the weight difference and setup difference. We then took the forest road to the highest point it reaches for bratwurst and sledding. Snow was between 1' to 1.5' with 2' to 2.5' drifts at the top. Heres some scenary shots.

All that could be seen of Mount Ranier.

The trip on the forest service road to the top was not bad, but will become inaccessible very soon.
