shsportsfan12's 1981 Hilux Build-Up Thread
Well this is my first post here but definitely not a noob to forums. Finally picked up a Hilux after searching for the right one for over 2 years. It wasn't like I just searched every couple months....I was searching weekly, if not daily for most of the time.
Specs are as far as I know:
'81 4x4
22r with Weber Carb and L/T Header
3" lift
31" BFG M/T's on Steelies
160k on Motor
60k on Tranny
LOTS of Rust
It's a rust bucket for sure. Picked it up about 2 miles from the ocean. It's been eaten up pretty bad. Not too worried though. The truck drives perfectly and I got it for $600 so I'm pretty happy overall
Plans for the time being:
Patch up rust holes
Clean up all/most rust and repaint truck
Truss front axle
Cross over steering
Probably upgrade trunnion bearings as I have heard of some issues with them in the stock axles
Eventually throw some Chevy axles under it
Full cage
New seats with harnesses
...and plenty more...
I'm going to green sticker it as well, so I've been trying to find a trailer for it too. Eventually will likely throw a 350 in it. Might even make it work out to throw my 5.3l Vortec outa my Chevy into it when I upgrade motors in my other truck.
Probably enough talking for now. It's going to be happening over a long period of time. Currently in an apartment but I'm hoping to move into a house by Xmas. As soon as that happens it's getting some work done.
On it's way to it's new home:

A friend thought it would be funny to spray paint the exhaust baby blue

That's all I have for you guys for now until I can get my place setup...Just thought I would post up as I continue to read up on everyone elses threads.

Thanks for reminding me about this....
A lot has changed on both trucks. The yota got a new paint job, new transmission, and a few other maintenance things. My Chevy got new wheels and tires, new rear bumper and winch built, new anti-wrap bar, and a few other things. I'll post some pics. Just got back from Hollister Hills with both trucks.

This Izuzu was amazing. Never would have thought it could go through anything but it did EVERYTHING.....minus this mud. I ended up having to winch him out.

He high centered on the middle section in the mud.

The yota will be getting new tires here soon along with cross over steering. Haven't decided how I'm going to fab that up yet. Also will be getting an interior cage. It already got new seats inside.

Both are the same. I took off 1 shock on either side in the front from the dual shock setup. Helped the ride up a bit. Rear is still the same. Took the endlinks off the sway bar as well. Nothing else has really been changed.

I honestly have no clue what's on it right now....3" is a total assumption. I want to think it's a Ranch kit due to all the shocks on it (there were 6) and the steering stabalizer being Rancho but I checked on 4 wheel parts website (probably not the best place) and didn't see one available for it.

Went down to Pismo for the weekend. Had a pretty good time but the weather was real crappy. Other than that though, it was a lot of fun. The Yota took beating after beating and kept on chugging. It has BALD Bfg M/Ts and I put it down to 15psi and ran into no real issues.

I was getting egged on to jump the truck again so some others could see it. Didn't even look at this portion before I plowed into it doing 35ish where the truck came to a dead stop and smashed the front in a bit. I'm hurting pretty bad today from that. My co-pilot at the time had a helmet and is a little sore.

and I stalled it and couldn't get it started again.

and to finish the night off, a small bonfire

This vid was literally just to the side of Comp Hill.
