I will be keeping the up/down function of the rear window, and I'll have to turn the cargo area into the box by welding metal along the inside. I will also need to figure out how to mount the rear seat-belts, since from the factory they attach to the wheel wells inside the cargo area. And lastly, pardon the terrible photoshop, I just wanted to see the general idea.

 

You cant because it would have to go through the floor and it would run into the fenders. and if it came out there it would then be tagged by the tire. unless you want it to roll down only a few inches

window would only roll down so far be alot of work too.

Ive seen alot of people take a truck with the little slide window and graft it into the back there. or maybe a swing window that goes up that would be sick. like off a newer 4runner

I lewft mine open and suprisingly doesnt get the interior too wet at all even the half doors and no glass. but then again I dont DD it and dress for the occasion

Yeah I would I hate when folks cut up good metal but thats not looking to good. I started cutting on mine that way. But I also plan on a dove tail in the front and rear. So yeah!!! Post pics if you do. Here are pics of what I started.

 

Hey man, that's not a bad photochop at all. I like what fills said about the hatch window. That would be WAAAAAAAAY easier than trying to retain the up/down window, screw that.

oh yeah, plus you could use anything from an actual 4Runner hatch to a freakin regular truck topper hatch. Indeed simple!!! Cheap too if you source it right!

 

X2 on the photoshop. I say go for it. it would be cool if you could somehow keep the cut off part and make it into a shell like a 1st gen that you could take off whenever you want

 

stockwell, I was always thinking how cool it would be to make a fiber glass top like the first gen 4runners or something similar to what you are saying.

The photoshop is pretty damn good if you ask me!

Random thought: you could retain the up/down option on the window by narrowing the window (use lexan or makrolan, plexi stratches too easy) to that it fits between the wheel well. Since you are chopping the roof, a little more metal work should not be too bad...

I see a local chopped 4hummer around town now and then, I love it! Looks fantastic.

 

do it like so part of a pickup cab with a rear slider

 

Chop it. maybe look into cage roll bars to support sagging on the whole runner.
