HELP need immediate tips on removal of front 3rd on a 02 4Runner

How the flip to I remove the front 3rd w/o removing the brace that will likely alter my alignment. I have the two 19mm bolts and the big ole hex on the back the vac line the electric and the breather line detached, hell I even have the rear bolt up and out of the hole scooted forward. And she just won’t budge. HELP I leave in 19 hours.

I will NEVER take out another IFS differential...all of them are a PITA. I only torch them off now.

Last one I took out on that 97 junker I bought about killed me and removed several fingers.

You got the CVs pulled loose I assume and everything else disconnected? Looked in the FSM for help?

Fingers,,,, yeah there blood on the shop floor about smashed my index in half. Yes the shafts are pulled just trying to wiggle it out. I'll drop it with Bluey Fab on Wednesday morning but need to get it out now. I have yet to source the service manual as I will do that now.

Thanks for the moral support Brian.

Haynes manual makes it sound soooo easy. Just remove what I did and like magic it should remove itself. There are two small bolts in the top of the 3rd that have me questioning what they are attached to, I will take a look in the morning.

Got that SOB out there was a 12mm bolt holding the breather lines to the top of the 3rd member. After that and some persuasion it came out slow and smooth. Now how I'll get it back in is a mystery. But at least it's out and ready for gears 4.88's rock.

Dude I went threw the same crap you did saturday night with my front diff! My buddy and I took all the bolts out and then were like huh?? But after about an hour and a half there is that sweet spot where the driveshaft flange clears the trans bell housing and then it falls out. It was so frustrating at first. I will be trying to put it back in thursday, so I will let you know if I found a "easy" way to do it.

I appreciate it but will be ahead of you by one day. Mine goes back in tomorrow night. I will let you know what I find. BTW not sure ow to get the 4wd indicator to stop blinking but pull your 4wd fuse and pull the batt. cables for 5 minutes keeps a CEL from coming on and the vsc from shutting down. I tied my cv's in place for the 156 mile commute Wed morning.

I hope he has manual hubs because he said he was going to tie them up and drive like that.......if he can't unlock them, they will be spinning as fast as the wheel.

Thanks for the concern, and yes my 02 has manual hubs.

PS. I have not installed the front yet because I have a head gasket leak and will be swapping in a slightly fresher 5VZ. Will wait until motor is out and then just drop the 3rd in.
