Need help with power steering pump snap ring please!!!

just rebuilt power steering pump with toyota seal kit and in accordance with toyota service manual....

thing is the last step about the rear housing and the snap ring isnt super clear or easy. spent much time playing with it and finally found a configuration that seemed acceptable.
installed everything, added fluid, started engine...

ran ok for a min or so... then noise....then all the fluid escaped the pump at once via the rear housing which blew out.

took it all apart. cleaned everything and repaired any damage. everything is ready for assembly but i would like some better guidance. thanks.

I have resealed two pumps and have had no problems. Here is my writeup: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...riteup-183622/

Sounds like an o-ring is damaged or the o-rings were installed in the wrong position. There are two different colored large o-rings that contain the pressure and shouldn't be reversed. The OEM seal kit has a piece of paper specifying where they go.

Make sure the rotor is all the way in so the rear snap ring fits into it's groove. The pump on the 3.0 has a retaining plate bolted onto the rear of the housing to prevent the snap ring from coming out.

just realized the problem after reading your post. dont think the rotor was all the way in... snap ring "seemed" as if it was in but it was not fully seated. both times i rebuilt the pump and thought i had done it right...till i got to the travel end stop with the steering and the rear blew out sending fluid everywhere. i bought a rebuilt pump today and installed it. works great. glad at least i know why i couldnt get that ring to fully seat. thanks.
