Hey guys, my auto tranny is going out in my 4runner and I am looking to swap it to a manual.

What are my options as far as what trannies I can get for it? So far I've found the R151R transmission (but I've heard those are hard to find), and the stock W56-B transmission. What other transmissions will mate up to my 86 4Runner? If you could give more than just codes, such as what cars they came from, that'd be great.

I heard the celica has a tranny that would mate up? I've had a hard time finding much information.

Also, what are some good clutch/flywheel companies? Do most use ClutchMaster?

Yup, sorry. 86 4Runner. It would be a 22re.

 

With the 22re bellhousing I believe you are limited to a W56.

 

If this is true, what models/years came with the W56?

Most likely correct.

FWIW, the "top" vs. "forward" refers to how the transmission and xfer case mates up. (Well, technically it refers to how the xfer case takes the shifter, use the search box to find the juicy details).

If you get the xfer case as "part of" the transmission when you buy, you won't need to worry much about it.

If that's not possible you need to pay attention to top- vs. forward-shift (trans and xfer case need to match).
