Quick question about timing

Hello All, I just did a headgasket job on my 3VZE and got everything back together. But my truck is not starting. i'm thinking i might be a tooth off on my distributor. So here is my questions, Will a 3VZE engine start if the distributor is a tooth off?

should, just not run too well, or the dist has to be all the way advanced or all the way retarded to run depending on wich way your dist is off do you have fuel and spark? and sure the cam timing is on?

If you removed the distributor make sure it isn't 180 degrees out. It's easy to accidently set it to tdc on the exhaust stroke, instead of the compression.

Is the VAFM connected and all other connections back together? Did you blow your EFI fuse when you had it apart (common)?

Thanks for you help guys. I was tooth or two off. I set the #1 back to the compression stroke at TDC and reinstall the Dizzy and it started right up. YAY!

For you guys that have done a head gasket job before, Is it common to change the oil again after the first startup? I drained the old oil and added fresh oil before the startup but when i checked the oil after the first startup, the oil is milky. I'm thinkin and hopen that there was coolent left in the oil passages and when i started for the first time and it flush all that coolent out. what do you think?

I would have changed it before starting it~ was there coolant in the oil?!?

I did change it before i started it and yes there was coolent in the oil.
