Head gasket or something else?

Driving today i noticed some smoke coming from my engine, i pulled over and looked under the hood. The smoke was coming from the back of the motor and was hitting the exhaust crossover pipe. Whats burning is coolant, i can smell it and it stinks.

So i drove out to my buddys house (has a shop and blah blah) I get there and he thinks its the HG. My oil and coolant are normal colors and the temp was never above half.

I was looking at the back side and I didnt really see anything leaking from those 2 hoses (1 big and 1 small).

What do you guys think. Headgasket? Its not alot of info but feel free to ask questions.

Got to find out where the coolants coming from and you'll have your answer.

If the hoses are dry it probably is, it's possible to have an external head gasket leak and still have everything operate properly. This would be if the gasket were to blow between a coolant passage and it's outer edge.

It could be a heater hose. They run to the top of the engine on the firewall and could possibly drip on the crossover if they were to spring a leak

it could be a heater hose, but then again it is the 3.0 so it's more than likely a blown head gasket

the 3.0's love to blow head gaskets

I know these love to blow HGs but i always drive really nice. Never shifting over 2500 and i always keep the fluids up to date.

Im guessing this is a hose because it leaked a little last year. Ill check it out in the AM and let you all know, if you care haha.

It's probably the #3 coolant bypass hose. It's u shaped I on the passenger side RIGHT BEHIND the plenum. You'll need to remove the hood to get at it (easy; 4 bolts & it's out)

is it the heater hose?
do you know if the head gaskets have been done under the recall or not?

when my 95 blew it's head gaskets there was no visible oil/coolant mixing my guess is it blew on an exhaust passage but it was leaking internally...

does it run rough on startup?

what TNRabbit said. make sure your coolant level is sufficient, start the truck, wait for it to warm up and you should be able to see where the coolant is leaking from back there.

I dont know if the HG was done or not. The PO only had this for a year and i didnt bring it up, but it does qualify for the recall. Im going to call the dealer in a few and see if its been done or not.

It runs just fine on start up. Im helping my friend with the rebuild of his 3vz and his HG blew and all it did was leak coolant and all the fluids were normal. Im really hoping its not the HG on mine.
