im only mildly concernd the my oil pressure guage duz'nt work, i keep oil in it.but looking at oil pressure switch..

there is no wiring attached... this is wrong, correct? the real baffler for me is there are no open electrical connections i can spot. so in short what/where is this supposed to be connected to? worth fixing? how do i describe the connector im looking for in order to get a replacement?

Yes, there should be a wiring harness attached there. Mine is a black shielded wire with a gray plug. It drops down from the top side of the engine. It is easy to lose track of if you tuck it away unplugged while you are trying to do something else in there.

As far as getting a new one, I'd imagine that it is part of the main wiring harness so it might be a little tricky. I'd bet that the original one is still in there somewhere, it's just tucked somewhere you can't see it.

It would be a good time to get rid of the unreliable sender anyways and put an aftermarket pressure gauge in instead.

ummm, what exactly is wrong with the stock sendor?

maybe just a new sender, cause they can wear out, but I don't see a reason to go all out with an aftermarket setup or just sendor been there, done that, opted to just swap in an SR5 cluster with the gauge

Definitely a personal preference thing... I just dislike that the gauge cluster doesn't have any numbers on it, but I'm picky about that kind of stuff.

well the only way i would consider a aftermarket is if in fact i cant fing the electrical connection and check if it even works. upon inspection unde the hood i found a small black wire with no connector on it that stretches to within about an inch of the sender. looks to me like when the body lift was done the wire was left connected and got sperated and the p.o. removed the connector. i would just like all my guages to work

I can't tell in the picture - is the plug currently on the top of the sender? It almost looks like it is. If so, the single black wire is most likely the one, especially since it has no connector.

If the case is that it got ripped off via body lift, try and get the plug off and see if you are able to reuse the plug.

Better yet - go to a junk yard and get a plug/wire and clip it off with plenty of wire to spare. Use a wire connector or solder to connect the two and you will be good to go.

The sender wire comes out of the harness that is located on top of the lower intake manifold section, near the fuel injectors... around the same area the coolant temp, cold start injector time switch and temp gauge sender wiring exits. You might have to remove the upper intake to get good access to that area if you can't find the plug and / or need to splice in a pigtail to the sender.

Go to the sticky that Steelydan posted that links you to a number of Toyota FSM's and download the one for 1990-1995 4Runners. If you are new to automotive wiring diagrams ( espedially Toyota) read the "How To" section first. according to the wiring diagram, your 4Runner is supposed to have a
Y/L (Yellow/Blue) wire running from the combination meter to the sender, but you said that you found a black wire???
If I were you I'd verify that the wire you assume to be for the oul sender does in fact run back to the oil gauge in the combination meter, either by a continuity check (little or zero resistance) with an ohmeter, checking from the connector at the back of the combination meter to the end of the wire or by tracing the black wire back into the harness to see if there is a jubction or a splice to the yellow/blue wire. Sometimes auto makers will use a larger gauge (size) wire or a wire with thicker insulation for sensor wires that may be subject to higher than normal mechanical stresses. There are no other wires close to the oil sender wire and it's going to take all the force of water mud, etc that gets sprayed into that side of the engine. If had sender wires on 2 Toyota trucks (22-re) break about 6 inches up in the harness. The copper strands broke yet the insulation was intact, a continuity check helped me troubleshoot this problem. Once I came across it with the first 22-re it was an easy troubleshoot the second time.
Your assumption that this wire is for the oil sender may be correct, but if it's not and you connect it you may be causing yourself a whole new batch of problems.
My 2 cents worth.
Good Luck!

My first "mod" was an oil pressure gauge and I love it. Its a mechanical gauge so both the sender and wire are now obsolete. Mine's an '86 so I'm not sure if your '93 would work the same.

screw it just put a mechanical gauge in its place. Did it today in my girls 86, yep its hers now- sold her lifted f150, after she snapped 3 axle studs towing a mercedes for me (customers car). painted the gauges pink.
