New member...radio/clock not working

Hi all,
I have a 1997 4Runner that I am getting ready to sell (sniff, sniff...so sad) and need to finally fix the radio. I had a very unfortunate diet coke explosion this winter which resulted in a frozen coke fountain all over the vents, heat/air control selector, and have had no radio since. Thanks to an excellent rendering on this site, I was able to take the dash off and clean around the radio, etc. (Coincidentally, my heat/ac vent selector will only slide back and forth between the 3 middle selections, and not either end...not sure if that is diet coke related too, or not)But, I have replaced the fuses on the driver's side under dash, and the radio still won't work. The first two times that I replaced the fuses, the radio worked for a few minutes (maybe ten) before getting all garbly and losing power totally. I think that my next step may be in removing the battery to replace those fuses. Before I go and do that, does anyone know of any other possible solutions? I appreciate all the help...

Sounds like your diet coke explosion has led to a failure of the radio. Replacing the fuses over and over is not going to fix it. The clock is also a known failure point on those 4Runners. What you write tells me you need to take the radio apart and clean it out, or just get a new radio and clock.

Save yourself the aggravation, change out the OEM clock and radio, they are not that expensive, Less then $50 for both. you did the hard part, cleaning up the residue so go with something that is pretty sure to be "clean" and just replace them. good luck
