Hey, in the midst of my tailgate rebuild I thought I would check to see if I can fix modify a piece for it. I don't have a key for opening or closing the back window, which is because I bought the gate from a wrecker. Real PITA. Can I fab or sort of snake in a piece that would be similar to make it work. I see ignition pieces at the auto store all the time for a decent buck so I thought I check. Nothing like heating up the soldier gun. Pics are of the piece I want to replace. Any ideas would help.

 

Pretty sure you can go to a locksmith and they can make you a key for it...

Take the lock to your local locksmith with one of your trucks keys, they can re-key it so your key will work.

Thats what I did when some asshat punched out my drivers side lock. Cost me $20 for the lock and $35 for the re-key.

 

Thanks Jay. Its seems the coast has its share of asshats. Actually, didn't ICBC say that early Toyotas were one of the most stolen vehicles in BC? I thought I read that somewhere a while back. I'll take the piece to a locksmith like you said, but I'll do it before I reinstall it on the new tailgate. It will be easier for someone to work on.

Thats why you need custom kill switches

Yeah, just take them the lock cylinder with the key you want it to be matched to. They also needed the year of the vehicle that the lock came from..but im sure that doesnt matter

Yes there is alot of asshats around here, thats why I stay away from the city. Go out in the bush somwhere
