Is that the same company toyota sued? Something along the lines of being so similar that people were mistaking the symbol of the china company for a Toyota.

You in San Diego? go test drive one and see what they're like.

The "safe" is amusingly ugly. Looks like a suzuki combined with the 2nd gen 4runner.

It might be a licensed production.

There have been the solid axle version of the double cab Taco produced with the VW logo one it.

I doubt it is an unathorized copy.

Try to keep in mind all that stuff is made in China anyway in the sweat shops so it might of been the real thing at a discount. Government sponcered slave labor can really bring costs down.

Why people still think that communisum is a good thing is beyond me.

If there is a buck to be made, the Chinese will knock it off.
I've been to China three times, and yes, software piracy and intellectual property 'theft' is a problem there. But I want to bring two points up: having travelled to other countries too, piracy is a worldwide problem that is not uniquely Chinese. Go to the Czech Republic and you'll see the same problem as well. And my 2nd pt, the buyers of counterfeit materials is not uniquely a Chinese problem either.

When I went to China, "those malls" you are referring to were full of Westerners (mainly from the USA, Australia and the UK) especially in the software bazaars. I find it somewhat hypocritical that the countries that harp on the piracy issue the most are the biggest customers. Gadget makes a very good point that some of these products may be licensed built and at the current wages in China, the prices seem "almost too good to be true".

Similar to what Bob points out - I just wanted to add that some people contribute to the growth of this piracy with their purchases of pirated movies, software, etc.

Not that I'm accusing anyone or anything (because I've done so in the past - not recently as I'm trying to live "clean") but if you want to complain about other countries and how they rip off everything then your computer should be free of downloaded MP3s, movies, etc that are copyrighted and weren't paid for.

But hey, I don't want to get into this type of argument. This is only MY opinion. I'm only saying that you shouldn't pull a Gray Davis - don't point the finger unless you're clean.

I have heard however, that China is *starting* to make an effort to crack down on piracy issues so that they can improve their status in the world trade.

EDIT:
I also wanted to note that some of the smaller car companies of different companies actually purchase the designs of popular older models from the bigger companies.
I was in Korea many years ago and saw an early 90s Acura Legend around with a KIA insignia on it. I found out later that Kia purchased the designs and plans and were authorized.

Who knows, maybe this Chinese dealership has authorization for engine specs or something. The issue could just be their attempt to mimic Toyota's insignia?

Then again, you have to admit, people would have to be pretty stupid or clueless to get as far as the dealership, test drive, and the signing of paperwork and not realize it's not Toyota.

Empacher that pretty make one of the best shells, so the chinese got a hold of one and made a mold out of it, and made their version called a Chinapacher.
Joe,

My experience has been, even though its a copy, its not as good---or doesn't even come close. Do they use the same, high quality materials? My guess is "no". Thus, you get what you pay for, and for discriminating rowing teams, I'm sure no one buys the Chinapacher, right?

I just requested a brochure from them and once their dealership opens up (I live in Escondido) I'll drive down and drive a couple of them and take a bunch of pictures The one I'm interested in seeing in person is the Monster... It looks like a mix between a 2nd Gen 4Runner and an Avalanche. Interesting combo, but I think it looks good

hmm...i took another look and it looks like the 2wd and 4wd admiral are switched. the 2wd looks like it has a solid axle with the diff on the driver's side, and a little higher up than the "4wd" that looks like a little 2wd truck

could be interesting if they're solid axle, they'll be snatched up by wheelers because the only vehicles sold in the us right now with SFA besides full size trucks are jeeps. very interesting indeed...

Kyle, yeah I think they just switched the labels -misprint.

My friends in the auto biz tell me there are a few factors when considering this over a used Toyota. They don't know how "CHinamotors" is selling these either- big mystery I guess
That was my surprise at seeing this- How could Toyota allow someone to undercut their used car market in the North American market?

Factors to consider:
They won't be selling any direct Toyota competition within a 10 yr span
(I guess that's right. The full 2nd gen 4R is older and the trucks are all 3rd world-market bodystyles)

Although Toy dies, the quality of materials and assembly will be inferior to OEM Toy.

They will have a tough time considering the new car market. The price points have to be in the $8k-$15K. The technology doesn't make sense for many buyers looking for smooth rides and mpg's. They can also pony up a few more bucks for a taco, xterra, ranger and next year the FJ

I still am interested A brand new 2nd gen 4-door SA 4x4 w/ bullbar (my friends think it will cost $15K)

they call them the "taliban-runner"

91Runner,
Where is escondido? I'll come with you when they open up- check it out and test drive.

It's not only toyota pieces. If you look at the monster the bed is off a nissan frontier and the pieces (what ever they're called) are off of the Avalanche. It's like buying 3 cars for the price of 1!!!

Depending on the quality of the axles, and where these axles are based from, I foresee many more SAS's in the future. Very interesting stuff there indeed. I don't expect them to stay around, they will probably die quicker than Dae Woo.

I just clicked the link... Say it isn't so!!!! Under Geelys, the "Merrie" has an early 90's mercedes front end complete with small logo above the hood. Not the germans too!

That monster is different, I see them being sold quickly to people wanting to pose as offroaders. I didn't even see a front diff, which leads me to believe its 2wd. It can't be solid axle, cuz of that skid plate, but the bullbar looks like an ARB and it has sliders.

I just thought it was funny how it says "Honestly Built." I mean... can you build a car dishonestly? LOL, and then the "Brilliantly Engineered" part should say: "Brilliantly Engineered, just not by us!" Even if they were being sued by Toyota, they wouldn't ever even put the smallest dent in Toyota sales. It's funny though I think.

FirstToy, Escondido is about 20 miles north of downtown San Diego. I'm really interested to see if this place is legit or not and just what kind of quality we're talking about. I mean if these things are of decent quality they might be worth checking out
