Alright, I want a bigger power plant. Due to the front distributor and smaller dimensions than a chevy block I am thinking of the 302.

Can anyone tell me if this is feasible? I think I can do this swap for less than a supercharger and fuel mods and net more HP....

Tell me I am wrong and I won't consider this any further, but the wheels are turning and I am itching to cut and weld in whatever it takes.

BTW 96 4x4 v6 is what it is now....

 

Why would you even think of polluting your Toyota with that icky Ford trash?

Seriously? I love the sound of a fox body mustang but it's ancient technology! Unless you already have a spare 302 long block laying around there is no way that it's going to be cheaper the S/C'ing.

Not only that but I'm sure the 302 weighs considerably more. It would be a shame to do all of that work on a 302 swap and then get smoked by a S/C'd V6...

 

i say don't do it. your 96 is just getting broken in by toyota standards

however, if i was to do a v8 engine swap, it'd be a 302. no chevy junk goes in my truck

Why not just pull the heads, bore it out, throw in bigger injectors, new fuel pump, and BAP. I would be willing to bet all this plus a SC would be running as fast if not faster. Definitely be along the same lines for pricing.

My buddy and I are currently undertaking a possible 4.7L V-8 conversion into a Tacoma DC. The Tacoma DC was recently restored/repaired by my buddy who bought it from a insurance auction (totalled from a rollover) and had the 2.7L I-4 motor. The Tundra donor was purchased from the same auction that was also totalled but sustained heavy rear-end damage.

'Glass fenders and some accessories reloacation are prerequisites in the already sparce real estate in the Tacoma engine bay as well as new motor mounts. Right now we are determing if it is feasible but it may just be a pipe dream (thats if the next gen Tacoma and the rumours that it may be a midsize w/ optional V-8 motivation are true) but we are certainly gonna try. The only way I can see it happening is thru a custom firewall, hood, and lotsa patience. The very idea of a S/C'd V-8 motivated Tacoma gets me giddy.

Uhhhg! I know Ford V8 conversions have been done on the past gen Toyotas but the very idea of a Ford engine in a Tacoma is making my ulcers rupture! Dude, there are sprchrgrs for the Tacoma 2.4, 2.7, 3.4L engines and other performance mods for those powerplants. They're realiable, make good power, and much lighter than the 4.9L V8 (I don't give credit to the "5.0L" moniker). Plus it makes most of its pwr in the upper rpm band which is useless in rock crawling and trail tackl'n.

I'm very familiar w/ the adage that you can always use a little more pwr but when it comes to the critical questions about an engine swap, especially w/ a Tacoma why mess w/ what ain't broke 'cause a Ford will!

 

why ? why put a ford in a yota,, unless you want to be working on it every weekend ? just look in your local paper, you can find so many used fords, its not funny, there is a reason for that,, they are junk, people want to get rid of them, to many problem,, and i live close to claycomo, mo. where the ford F150 is built, i know guys that work there, they dont even drive fords, i bought a yota cause i want something thats gonna go the distance, with out putting a lot of cash in it.. IF you do it,, i wish you the best of luck.

I will agree that it's proven and somewhat powerful for a small block V8. However, it's unimpressive when you think of the HP to Cubic inch ratio. I'm not a betting man but I would put my Supercharged Tacoma up against a Tacoma with a 302 swap anyday...
