Question Check engine light on

I have an 86 4Runner and my check engine light comes on. It will idle without the light coming on but as soon as I rev it the light comes on. When I am driving at a mid range rpm it will sputter a bit and it also smells rich. I have replaced the cooland temp sensor and it still acts the same. I cannot get it to flash a code. Any help would be great!

You're jumping the small two hole plug by the airbox and not getting the light to flash with the key in? Hmmmm, guess I would pull the efi fuse for 30+ seconds and then try it again to see if the light does what your describing. I would think it would showing a "code" of flashing lights. If it smells rich, maybe it's the AFM or TPS(?) and you might check that with a voltmeter to verify resistance values...

I have no idea, but if you search on here there is online service manuals that can help you. The Air Flow Meter is what measures the air coming in thru the airbox. I think it also talks to the fuel pump...
