Ring and Pinion Set Up

Hey.....I'm looking into new ring and pinions for front and rear diffs on my rig...I've been looking into the Yukon gears. I don't know too much about R & P's. Right now I'm running 285/75 16's and my stock gears are killing me.....I'm thinking of running 35's....maybe....So basically I'm looking for the best setup for a balance of power and highway driving.....I don't go off roading every weekend, but I'd like the power to be there if needed. I've done some reading and have seen most people go with 4.88's, or 5.29's. Anyone have any suggestions??

Also....I'm not to sure about reverse rotation and my differential size...7.5" or 8"?? Do I need a new rear carrier to fit aftermarket gears? Like I said...I don't know crap about diffs....so any help would be apreciated!!

as long as you get yukons in a yukon box then there good. i hear great things about motive gear, precision gear, and nitro also.

5:29's and 35's worked awesome for me!

im pretty sure that the size for the front is 7.5 reverse rotation. iirc 95 and older used reg rotation. the stock carrier should be able to mate with your new gears.

oh and you could search a lil more, there is a ish load of info out there..

4.88's would suite you well.

get a hold of east coast gear supply and he will set up with some good prices.

front is 7.5 rev rotation, rear is v6/turbo

When i go 35's I'll be heading to 5.29's but i got the 2.7

And I'd go with Precisions for your gears.

i just had gears and a locker put in my truck three weeks or so ago. and as crolision said, chase over at east coast gear supply has great prices. I would have had him do mine but im move from NC before i had the time to do it, so i had a shop up here in maryland do it. I have yukons in the rear and precision in the front. im frunnin 4.88s for my 285/75R16, works great.

many "other" or "off name" R&P sets are made by yukon, genuine, etc all depends on the marking on them when you pull them out of the box (maker of the set, where, when)
get the master install kit , even put a locker in if you can so you would not have to pull it again in the future. i would go with what ever the calculator says, or if it is over 4.88 go with the 5.29s.
what is the setup on the rig, a/t?

I know you plan to step up to 35s, but how well do the 4.88s work w/ the current 33s on the freeway? What are your rpms reading if you're doing say 75mph & 80mph? Oh and what kind of mpgs are you getting now? I assume a tad better.
