Hey out there,

I need info on how to remove the 100amp alternator fuse from the big box under the hood....anyone know? Seems like I can't just wiggle the blown one out.

any tricks here???

Just yank on it. It'll come out. Don't use enough force to where you'd yank the whole fuse box out, though. Wiggle it around and keep pulling. Unless there's a catch on the fuse that I'm not remembering... but I doubt it.

 

i'm wondering if it isn't bolted down?

 

I cam across an 80 amp starter fuse (85 toyota van) that I thought was corrorted(sp) in place. NO, the two sides had a bolt and wire through them. I'd check around back if wiggling is not starting to more it at all.

DO NOT YANK ON THAT FUSE! That particular fuse as well as the others has a nice big bolt running through them. You will have to disconnect that and then you can slide it out. Good luck, they are a PITA to take out. Let me know if you need the fuse and I can give you a quote.

Thanks! I tore into it after working thru lunch yesterday.....basically you just take the box apart, unscrew the fuse and drop in a new one! The thing look daugnting b/c the damn fuse looks like it should just POP out. Alas, with that kind of amperage you NEED things bolted down!

Sorry I got to this thread late...

Had a little fire in the fuse box of my 99 and ended up replacing the entire 'insert' in the fuse box and the lid.

The dealer said it would be one days work

At $75/hr, I decided to do it myself to avoid one of these

Anyhoo, as you say, just release the snap in fixtures from the insert and ease the inner portion right out.

Its like a 6mm bolt I believe.

BTW, replacing my entire fuse box took my 4hrs and saved over $600 in labor...I got one wire out of 100 plus wrong but diagnosed that pretty quick...

...not fun but it can be done.
