Any second gen. 4Runner owners out there with the trail gear rear bumper on it? I picked one up the other day, haven't put it on yet but looking under the truck I can't see where it would go. I know it slides into the frame and is supposed to bolt up to stock holes (according to trail gear) but I don't have two stock holes per side of my frame in the rear. I do have one that holds the body mount, where's the other?

 

And install pictures would be great! I should maybe add that I have a second gas tank mounted up where the spare usually sits, it's pretty tight to the frame rails but I couldn't feel any holes up in there beside the tank.

 

I installed a marlin crawler bumper on a 2nd gen. It went into where the hitch was bolted.

Yup, mine slid in right where the hitch was mounted. 2 bolts on each side.
I don't have any pics of the mounts, but here is mine:

 

My hitch was mounted with the bolts going up into the frame bottom, not through the sides of the frame rails. I'm thinking I'm going to have to drop the second tank, drill the frame to get this thing mounted. You got lucky when you removed you rear bumper, you should see the mess of rust and uglyness I uncovered when I removed mine. Being in what I'll call Canada's rust belt I wasn't really surprised. I'll throw up some pics. tonight when I get home from work.

 

Oh yeah, and that bumper loks pretty sweet!!! can't wait to get mine on.

 

any updates on this? im also in the process of installing the TG bumper but cant find where itll bolt up.

 

The bumper is on, I had someone else put it on so I can't really say what was involved but I doknow the stock holes were there, I'll snap off a picture or two after work and post them up this evening. This I hope will give you a little help.

 

Besides my locker, I'd say the TG rear bumper was the best investment I've made into my 4Runner. It gives you so much more clearance in the rear, I don't even have to worry about what angle I'm at or how steep the hill is anymore. It really allows you to take the "right" path instead of the path that's going to clear your hitch/bumper which might not always be the best path.

 

When I saw the title to this thread I KNEW you were going to whore out that rig of yours! I do love the way it looks though.

Not much of a fisherman, especially with the hundreds of dead fish floating on the lake right now. It's disgusting. Apparently herpes killed all the carp in our lake.....as funny as that sounds.

It's raining and pretty crappy out right now, I'll get pics tomorrow. and in a week or two I'll put up a few more with the cuts and welds we're doing so I can put my rear tire carrier back on.

excellent! is it going to be something like the mod suggestion I have in my build thread? I'm looking to do the same with a Marlin Crawler bumper - that is, modify it to fit a stock swing out tire carrier.

 

The first picture is the drivers side mounts. The holes were there, one under the body mount and the other just to the left of it in the picture.


Here's my proposed custom to get my rear tire carrier back.. I know my photoshoping sux!! but you get the idea I hope. The plan is to cut out a piece of the riser at the tailgate end and drop the tube down and run an upright midway along the bottom tube to reconnect to the top. The piece just below the taillight will be gone of course, well not gone but lowered.
