This is for 88~95 trucks and 4Runners with the V6 + R150f Manual Trans.

So I installed a 2” body lift on my 4Runner a few years ago. I noticed the shifter didn’t sit as high in the cab. The shift boot was also rubbing on the plastic interior trim. This caused the shifter boot to get a wear hole in it. And shifting into gear was a pain in the ass. So I trimmed some sheet metal and moved the black rubber shifter boot/seal back a little. This fix helped some but it still wasn’t that great.

Anyways I knew that some short shifter kits raised the shifters leverage point and the shifters sat higher. I found some on URD but they were listed for the newer 96 and up trucks and 4Runners with the 5vze. Guess what! It fits our R150f equipped trucks as well. I dont know what Tranny the 96+ trucks use but I suspect it is the same. I’ve been using it for about three years now and it works great.

Caveat, I recall one person on another forum that installed this on his 88 truck and said the shifter itself was bigger at the pivot point, he got a newer shifter from the boneyard and it worked.

I have a 2" BL also and did the extension that came with the kit and I"ve always hated my throw. It seems like it's 3 ft from first to second gear sometimes. So if I get a shifter out a 96+ and install a URD short shifter kit it should all fit? I had one of their kits in my 6 speed Taco and loved it.

You might not need the 96+ shifter, the one you have might work just fine.

Yoterr, 4Crawler makes a short throw transfer case shifter that looks like URD's. I don't believe he makes one for the R150f transmission though.

So how much did it raise the shifter? I have a 3" bl and ive already welded in the extensions into the shifters. It has super long throws, and I hate it. So I was thinking, I could just go get a stock shifter from a tacoma, and buy this.
but I want the shifter to be the right height...

 

On my 95 Runner 2" body lift it raised the shifter maybe 1" to 1.5" . It feels comfortable to me at this height kinda right around stock height. Plus its got less than stock throw ratio (short shifter) this was a big plus on my fast rev motor.

The welded on or bolted on extensions are like rowing a boat when you shift compared to this upgrade.

Jay, since I don't have the 3" body lift on my Runner I don't really want to advise you on how it will feel. I'm sure it will help but I don't know.

 

Well, I could always get a screw on 1.5" extension or something. Long throws, oh yeah! I hit my sterio everytime I go into 5th

No before and after pics but my knuckles are no where near the stereo when I shift.

Where is the link to 4Crawlers short shifter for the transmission not the transfer case ?
I know he makes one for the transfer case http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...wShifter.shtml. However for my 2" body lift the transfer case shifter wasn't needed.
I think he even makes a shifter extension for the transmission but it doesn't raise the shift fulcrum it just extends the shifter itself.

 

I dont think 4crawler makes a short throw for the tranny. Just the t case. I wish he did tho cause im sure it would be cheaper then 150 haha.

 

i didnt bother to extend my shifter when i did the 3 inch body. i just bent the shifter forward

 

Any problems with shifting or hitting the dash if you don't put in the shifter extension for the 3" body lift?
