Broken Plastic Injector Cap On 3VZE

When removing my injectors on a 92 4runner 3VZE I broke one of the green caps that fit like a sheath over the spraying side of the injector. It has a small hole in it for the spray to get through. There is a grommet that slides around this green cap to seal to the larger boot in the intake. Without that broken green cap/boot the grommet fits loosely, I can still use the broken green cap as a spacer however the spraying side has broken off. Do I really need that green cap as long as the grommet seals tightly to the metal on the injector nozzle? Could I use injector safe RTV to seal the grommet to it instead of using that green cap? Is it air that would leak in to the intake if not sealed well enough or would the spray somehow leak out? I am short on the 100.00 to buy a new injector.
This forum is such a help thanks to all in advance

The plastic caps usually get replaced when you have injectors serviced, so the part is probably available. Call you local injector service shop and see if you can get one.

Sounds like you are talking about the pintle cap. If so SkiRig is right that it is replaced when serviced. Take a look at this diagram to see if that is what you broke.

And yes you need a pintle cap for the injector to be used. It acts as the primary heat shield. I have no idea what the result would be of using an injector without a pintle cap but it can't be good.

I broke 2 pintle caps and just reassembled the injectors without them.

That was over a year ago

But kydsid may be right; I may be cooking my injectors as we speak. If you can figure out some simple way to get them, do post it here.

I found them on Mr. Injector's website. He has a kit to rebuild your injectors for $21.
