I was given an 87 Toyota pickup with the 22r engine and manual tranny. I was told that the truck had been sitting for a while, and needed a Slave Cylinder. I replaced the slave cylinder, and now with the truck running and in gear the truck will not move, in any gear. In fact the engine never changes RPM. I was told by the owner that before the slave cylinder started leaking that the truck ran and shifted fine, and the clutch never slipped. Is there something simple I am missing here, it does not look like the tranny has been removed or touched, with the exception of the Slave cylinder bolts were un done and it was hanging there when I got it home. But the original bolts to it were in the Ash tray. After reading some of the post here I checked for the obvious things.

Slave Cylinder moves the actuator more than an inch.
The actuator moves squarely. Someone mentioned the pin could have slipped of part of the way. But I would think it would not dis-engage if that were the case.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Silly question, but did you bleed the clutch? Properly?

Is the master bad from sitting all that time? Do you have the pedal adjusted correctly?

Its possible the clutch is staying disengaged from rusting in place, but I have driven vehicles that have sat for 5+ years without any issues, so it seems strange that it would act up. Did he possibly replace the clutch, and put the plate in backwards? Or maybe the clutch is completely toast? I know what he *told* you humans are prone to lying to make a buck

 

Going to pull the tranny, this weekend if the weather holds. Will let you know what I find.

The truck was free to me, so I do not think he is not telling the truth. But his son may have messed with it since the last time he drove it.

if the slave was leaking it may have not been completely disengaging the clutch, allowing it to slip and burn up.

Either way it's not a good sign for the clutch disc if you can put it in gear with the engine running and foot off the clutch. If the clutch was stuck on the trans input splines, it would be a problem of not properly disengaging . . .

any noise from the bell housing?
