swapping auto motor into manual truck

I've come to the conclusion that the 3.4 is the swap foro my dead 3.0 5spd truck. As I search for motors, I concerned about some apparent conflicting info that I accumulated.

Most donors in western CO are in automatic 4Runners. Some threads here have stated the incompatibility of putting the auto motor into a manual truck. Some specific info here states that the auto crankshafts aren't machined for a pilot bearing. The ORS technical info alludes to a similar issue.

However, a trusted Toyota dealership parts guy showed me that there was only 1 5VZ-FE crankshaft part number for the entire run. I also inspected a motor from an auto that had a bearing installed.

Can this be definatively answered or not?

just make sure that the donor 3.4l has a pilot bearing hole and you will be fine.

I guess I asked badly the first time. How does one make sure. Are all the engines the same or not? I want to hear it run before its pulled. No yard is going to pull the motor to let me look.

You will need:

-3.4 flywheel, clutch and pressure plate
-3.4 pilot bearing
-3.0 throwout bearing

I used 3.0 pilot bearing, throwout bearing, flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate on my swap.

My 3.4 is from an auto 4Runner 4x2 and I used a computer from a manual tacoma 4x4. The engine had the hole for the pilot bearing and the plugs all fit into the computer.

Just because the plugs fit into the computer, does NOT mean the wires are in the right location. End result could be a fried ECU. Toyota used the same plugs on many differant harnesses. They moved the pins around to make them work with individual ecu's. I have a 00 cellica ecu that plugs right into a 3.4 harness. This doesn't mean it will work or not do damage to the ecu or harness.

I had ORS do the conversion harness and I gave the vin#'s for both and mentioned the them the differences and talked with Mike about it. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. It sucks that ORS isn't around any more but if it does fry it, I guess I'll find another ECU and and you'll have another customer!

I just bought a 94 5spd Runner and picked a 3.4L from a 96 auto Taco complete with the wiring and ECU. Do I have to run a MT ECU if it's swapped into a 5spd truck? I've done SBC and 4.3 Chev conversions and never had an issue using an A/T ECU with a 5 spd. If I can avoid spending the extra $$ on an M/T ECU and plugs I'd like to.

Thoughts?
