installed aftermarket intake kit now engine dies

last night I installed an aftermarket intake kit on my 94 4runner with a 3.0. it is a k&n filter that attaches to the MAF and a tube that connects the MAF to the intake junction. when I had the intake off I cleaned inside the throttle body w/carb cleaner. it runs fine however when I let off the throttle the tach goes instantly to zero and the check eng. light flashes. the eng is still running. the idle seems high when I first start it. I think it could be the throttle pos. sensor or maybe I tweeked something in the MAF when changing the tubes any ideas?

There's a connector that goes to the MAF. Make sure that is secure and free of dirt.
Sounds to me like there's no signal telling the computer how much air comes in.

possibly the connector to the AFM, or maybe one of those to the igniter got bumped, but it sounds more like the intake isn't sealing well between the throttle body and AFM

update

thanks to everyone for the advice. turns out I inadvertantly damaged the connector at the MAF when I unplugged it. that sucked! cost me $225.00 for a rebuilt one. installed it and no more problems. the only thing is that it seems to idle high(1000 rpm) after it warms up.eventually it goes down to around 700-800 rpm. it just seems to take awhile to come down. I don't know it has anything to do with the intake or not. any thoughts would be appreciated.
