1988 4 runner Rear Window

I Have a 1988 4 runner and cant get my rear window to work right. I can get it to roll down, but it will not roll up at all. I have looked over 4crawler and still cant figure it out. Ive replaced the relay with another and didn't fix the problem. The relay does not click when trying to roll it up. Anyone have any ideas???

It wont go up with either switch, the rear switch or the center console switch. Ive also tried switching the center console didnt help. Didn't change the window lock switch.

Have you tried putting direct power to the motor?

sounds like one of the safety switches - latch, topper switch or wiper motor

if it won't go up (personal problem, right?) reach through the panel where the jack is an feel up towrds the front of the truck, there is a switch up there that the fiberglass top bolt presses on - disconnect is and jumper the 2 terminals (short piece of wire with 2 male spade terminals) - - try that

if that doesn't work, the wiper arm might not be all the way back to the "rest position" push it up against the stop and retry - worst case, if it's the wiper motor switch, you can jumper the terminals for that (not sure which terminals, but if you can read a diagram, you should be able to figure it out, let me know if you need more help) through the little "connector access" at the driver side rear corner of the top

jumped the two wires for the switch, didnt help, then i pulled the cover off the wiper assembly and made sure the switch was working right, and look like it was, i pulled the wiper down and it wouldn't let the window do anything, then i pushed it back to its position, and i still will only allow the window to roll down, not up .

Well i took both the lock switch out and window switch out and went down and bought electrical contact cleaner, cleaned the hell out of them moving them back and forth, then out them back in and both started working. Window will now roll up and down with the inside switch and lock switch does now work. i still cant get the window to roll up with the key in the tail gate, which is fine as long as i can roll it up from inside. Thanks for all your guys help. Thanks

Well, I had real nice reply but my wonderful government computer crashed and lost everything. POS.

ANYWAYS, you could try to jumper that lock switch but I don't know if it's a two wire switch. You could probably read out that switch and replace it if it's bad. Sounds like theres no power getting to the control switches for "up." Need to figure out what is upstream and check it.

I know when my window wouldn't roll down the switch in the gate on the drivers side latch had come apart. So, with the window stuck up I could tell I had power for "up" but nothing for down. Make sence?

ah crap, I was late on that one!

Sounds like you may just have to clean up the inside of the key hole in the gate now!
