Oil filters
I was wondering if there is a larger oil filter that will fit my truck? The one the books call for are all small, but it seems like I remember a buddy of mine used a full size filter on his yota. Does anyone know for sure and can you give me a size that will fit? Thanks.

I use a Napa Gold 1516 on my 5VZFE, its for a 95 Ford Taurus 3.0L, but same threads and diameter just longer can. I think the 22re, 3VZ, and 5VZ take the same filters do they not?

I used one for a ford f-150 with a 302 on my old 22r. It was about twice the size of the stock one. I stopped using it because I found that it didn't really show any difference. I changed the oil every 3000 or close to it and it looked the same with either filter.

If I was changing the filter every second oil change, then I might opt for a larger one. Since I change both oil and filter every 5000-6000mi, I just use the little stock filter. Maybe I should change the filter every 10,000-12,000mi, though....

motorcraft FL-910 and FL-400 will work, the 400 is bigger. i used to work at a ford dealer and corss referenced the oil filters from our after market catalog for non ford cars
and the FL-1A won't work, the threads are way bigger, and i don't think the filter itself will fit in the filter location.
EDIT: i'm talking about the 22re

The NAPA gold 1516 fits almost all rangers, mustangs, and some f-150's, so some of these guys are saying it will fit...go into your local napa and see. Ask for the 1516 master pack filter...it's much cheaper, the only difference is the master pack is wrapped in celophane, as opposed to a box. if not, ask for the 21516, that's their cheaper number. for the 3-5 bucks it will cost it won't break the wallet to find out if it fits or not.

I've heard of those lifetime filters...only in use in motorcycles though. For the price of them though i'd just run regular filters plus what if they happened to have a defect or wear out after 500,000 miles ( we drive toyotas, i'm sure they didn't think of that ) ... lol

I use NAPA gold 1515's for my 22RE-powered '86 4Runner. This is a direct cross-reference to Fram XG-8A's, which I've also used for years with no issues.
Hope this helps; the 1516 may be for the 5VZE, but, I'm assuming the threads may have changed or something -- search for XG8A or Napa 1515 and 22re in google -- some guy had made a website outlining all the various oversize oil filters from different brands which fit the 22re's.
