but a buddy of mine bought an 86 4runner real cheap and just wanted the 22re and someone else is going to buy the body. I thought instead of dealing with a questionable frame weld, I could take my buddys rolling chasis and do the SAS (which would be much easier with no body) and then put my body on. We have a tractor and sling to lift the body so I don't think that will be a problem.

Has anyone removed their body? How bad was it? What is your opinion on taking off the body to do the sas and have a good frame? Or is it worth me just keeping my 4runner the way it is and sas it? Thanks for the help.

 

Might as well, to be honest it doesnt seem that much stuff you will have to disconnect. I havent done it, but it cant seem to hard. Do the sas while you have it off and por-15 the frame.

 

IDK...There's a reason only one person sells a bod lift kit for the 4Runner...I want to POR-15 mine too when I'm done with all the fabrication and everything, but I don't expect it to be very easy.

The body is probably a lot heavier than it looks too, everything is layered. I seriously cut through about 9 layers of sheet metal when I chopped mine.

 

I figure it may be heavy, but lucky my buddy has a tractor with a lift so we just thought we could use some slings to lift it. I am worried a/b disconnecting everything. My friend has removed the cab of an 85 truck, but it was not fuel injected.

 

I haven't done a runner, but I did a cab swap on an 88 with efi. It is pretty simple, just make sure to disconnect the fuel lines, brake lines, and wire harness stuff. The body is pretty well encapsulated. Just go slow and you should be fine.

 

Wiring would be my only concern.

 

I did a frame swap on my 81 pickup. It was soooo easy to repair and paint the frame and if your going to do a sas I'm sure that will make the time for the swap worth your while. When they pull the body from your friends frame take pics and notes so you dont screw anything up on yours.

 

I think I'm going to wait for the final decision until I see what the work is when we remove the body of my friends runner to sell to the person that wants to buy it. Are there any concerns having a VIN for the body and a different VIN on the frame?

i just swaped my 88 4runner body onto an 85 frame. It really wasent as hard as i thought it was going to be. I did realize that the clips for the injectors were different from 88 to 85 and one had hoses that the other didnt so i swaped over my motor and tranny to make things easyer. From frame to frame it was the it took about 25 minutes to remove and swap the motors. All in all it took 72 hours to do the swap and get it running. But i got it running with out the rad in and when i put it in i remembered the bolt i snaped on the lower part of the intake when it started pissing coolant. oh well i should have it done this weekend. Oh yeah dont forget to remove the shift knob and boot like i did

 

Ain't hard. Not even that many wires to disconnect. The brake and fuel lines were the worst of it. I think the body weighs in around 1200lbs.
