Question what gear ratio is stock

I have a 1989 4x4 reg cab, v6(3.0) with manual trans. I wanted to know if there is a standard gear ratio. I have an opertunity to purchase another rear end with 4:10 but I dont know if that is what I currently have.

Search gearing and you'll find all the information you ever wanted, or never wanted, to know!

Jack up tire, spin tire 20 times, count rotations of d-shaft. Take that number divide by 10 and thats your ratio.

You either have 4.10's (likely) 4.30's (not so likely) or 4.56's (likely)
Do not pay more than $50 for a 4.10 rear diff, they are VERY common.

Check your axle code, it will be on your driver side door post. Look here to decipher.

It will be a 4 digit code after the transmission info M/T, and will start with a G like G084 which would be a 4.10. The G is 8" rear, which is what you have.

And those of us in the states hate you for it.

As crazy as this sounds I'm looking at a job in the outback. I'll be bringing my IFS rig just to show you guys something new, then I'll sell that pig for an SAS rig.

Oz has the best Toyota trucks...if only the steering wasn't on the wrong side.
