gearing issues(newbie)
i'm running 33 tsl's and looking to replace my factory gears to 4.88 does any one know if you have to replace any thing else except the ring and pinion when doing this or is there more to this than just gears. also do i buy 2 sets or do they sell a different set for the front end, i have not been able to find much info on this subject. any help Please!

you can buy diffs already set up with new gears and bearings for $500 rather than
$150 for gears
$100 for bearings
$250 for install
its all the same price but the pre assembled units are ready to drop in no waithing

hey crolison mentioned 5.29's is there a reason why you would suggest going that low? i would not be doing any serious climbing or any rock crawling, just weekend cruising and mudding. just curious on your statement.

I just got my truck re-geared with 5.29's. I like them, although i have not even finished breaking them in yet. Also locked and new axles while i was in there. Anyways the 5.29's will really save your engine if you decide to go with larger tires. I have 35inch tires on mine and they really slowed my engine. With the 5.29's i have alot more power. The 4.88's will work just fine though you just wont get the full effect if you decide to go with larger tires later. And you only want to open your axles up once, otherwise it just gets expensive to do it twice.

I agree ring and pinion front and rear and set up kits for both. I like my 4.88's with my 33's. The speedo is almost exact with 33's and 4.88's. You might consider installing lockers especially in the front because it's time consuming to replace the front R&P. I went with aussie lockers and love them! I also bought and replaced all my front end gaskets and bearings when I had it all apart ( it's a good idea if you've got the bucks)

If you replace the front you need to replace the rear too. It's not too hard. You should consider a locker if you've got the money. I love my aussies! If you have an after market R&P already in your rig it might say on the side of the ring what it is.
