Need advice on getting hitched!

Ok, so not that kind of hitched - already done that.

I need to get a trailer hitch for my '98 SR5, and wondering about a couple of different brands - hoping someone out there can provide some recommendations. I have 32" tires, so I'm a bit concerned about which models will fit around the 32" spare underneath. It seems like Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tite are the major brands out there. Anyone have any experience with these and 32" tires? Any other brands I should seriously consider?

Thanks,

Josh

Humm....

Other option: Forget about storing the spare underneath and just get a custom rear bumper with a tire carrier

Hey Josh-

I have a Hidden Hitch on my '98, and it tucks up real nice and tight, and there should be room for a 32" spare under there. It curves out slightly to the rear, and is as wide as the frame rails on the sides. I wish I had a better pic, but you can more or less see it here:

I ordered it online from etrailer. Good prices... I can take another pic tonight when I get home if you like...

which hitch exactly?

Thanks for the response Jayson. Is your hitch the round tube model or the square tube model?

How soon you want a hitch? I imagine there are folks like myself, I'm getting a custom rear bumper this fall, who already have one that no longer use their hitch who would sell you their old one at a decent price. Don't Toyota's come with a REESE hitch from the factory or as a dealer option?

I'll sell you mine when I get my custom rear bumper this fall for a fair price.

Good point, Brian, there's usually at least one for sale over in the CLassified Section...The only problem with those is that the reciever sticks down below the assembly, where as it is incorporated into the tube in the Hidden Hitch that I have. This is only an issue if you are worried about your departure angle when offroading. I don't tow that much, and for the cost of my hitch, its almost like having a little sacraficial steel back there...

The one in the classifieds is selling for $50 + s&h @ $70. I think the s&h can be less than that but I will sell my hitch with wiring for $40 + s&h to whoever may be interested. Its currently on my 1991 & due to the Blift im getting it iwll look goofy so its gotta go.
