Painting the roof rack

I just had the entire truck painted post-accident. I want to paint that all the faded black pieces now; black on door pillars, rear spoiler, rack, front cowl etc. What I am worried about is the rack. I strap my poles and other things up there when I head to the coast. I am worried that If i repaint it it will be prone to scratch and look worse as a scratched up rack rather than just a faded one. Any ideas?

instead of using paint, use bed liner, it doesn't scratch
or, maybe get it powder coated, but thats expensive and you cant touch it up

yeah powder coating is too expensive and I am looking for something that I can do myself. I was thinking of the truckbed liner in a can stuff. I am worried that it is too thick and will mess up the tracks and other sliding parts on the rack. I was thinking maybe bumper spray. It may be a bit more durable.
