i just installed the boost gauge with my s/c, and i noticed that when it gets to about 4psi and up it makes a hissing sound. it's not a solid hissing sound like a leaking tire makes, but rather a really fast pft-pft-pft sound (sorry for that desc). just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or do i need to reconnect the hose to the back of the gauge???

 

Definately a connection loose there.
Check everything from the back of the guage to the S/C connection.
Should be an easy one.

 

You may also want to check the tubing you are using. I had the same sound on my boost line running from the S/C to the piggyback computer I am using. The final resolution was to use some thick wall nylon tubing. I can send the info on the tubing if you need it, just PM me. Are you using the tubing that came with the gauge?

 

I have the same noise and I'm using 1/4' clear vinyl tubing from Home Depot. I switched to that from the standard 1/8" nylon to prevent kinking, but the noise is very annoying, especially when I have the windows closed. I'm thinking of going back the the original nylon tubing unless there are better suggestions.

 

I tried lots of tubing from all over the place. Finally, I used this and the noise is gone.

How long did your ECU's take to "learn" about the SC? I mean when will it reach it's full performance? How many miles?

 

You can get the nylon boost line from Pep Boys. Look in the section where they have the guages. The stuff I got was in a locked glass cabinet. It will come coiled up, so use a blow dryer to heat it up and unravel it. It will help prevent kinks. It came in a red package, and it was 6', just like they give you with the TRD pod. Six feet is plenty. While you're at Pep Boys, you might want to pick up any brass connections you need too. I ended up making 6 trips in one day when I did the boost guage, lol. It works perfectly now! Maxxed out at 8.5 psi!

Oh Jim: I think the ECU will have learned by 100 miles, with the full range of throttle being exercised.

Are you sure your boost guage is accurate? Producing 8.5psi without a smaller pulley doesn't seem right? ?

 

Yeah, it's accurate. Did you see my post? It made 8.5 psi going 105 mph at 4800 rpm. It will make 7 psi, maybe 7.25, under normal driving conditions. Here's the post if you want to check it out: CLICK HERE: Making 8.5 psi.
