Towing w/ 3rd Gen --- How much is OK?
#1
I have a 3rd Gen w/ 3.4L V6, 5-speed manual, and factory tow package.
I want to go pick up a car this weekend and tow it home w/ my 4Runner. The car weighs approx 2600lbs, and I can borrow a friend's dual-axle steel trailer.
I'll tow the empty trailer to pick up the car, about 110 miles one-way. Then tow the car + trailer the 110 miles home.
Will this be too much for the 4Runner to tow?
What do you guys think?
Thanks!!

Depends on the weight of the trailer. I believe the tow rating is 5000 lbs. Just remember to have some good tie down straps & set the car to have about 200-250 pounds on the tongue. Stop once or twice & double check your straps. Also make sure the trailer has a Flat 4 connector or get an adapter.
Good Luck,
Paul
P.S. What kind of car is it?

I towed my parts car a few hundred miles with my 98. It's a V-6 5-speed too. It probably close to 5000 cause the dual axel trailer I used probably weighed between 2-3000 lbs. It was up and down hills on the highway and interstate. Just take it easy and you'll be ok. I've also towed 5-6000 lbs a few times just a couple of miles.
