Stripe or Not to Stripe?

So, I have the SR5 stripes and after 22 years, they look a little shotty. Not really bad, but they are faded and bubbled in spots. My question is cosmetic only, do I get rid of them or keep them? Found the thread on 'how to' just wanted to get some of your opinions on should I?

How to: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/a...runner-156310/

Thanks!

I vote for neither, and to simply replace them

What you could do is, when you remove your current ones, and it looks good, then keep the new stripes for later if you do want to put em on.

I like how it looks now. Just my $0.02

They look really good from a distance, i just got rid of mine they were pretty messed up though and i only had them on one side because of an accident from the PO, they fixed everything else but for some reason never put decals on it. Keep them or replace them if you can i like how those one look.

Maybe even get a piece of paper and transpose(like the old crayon over a quarter trick) the decals on it so you can get some custom ones in a different color or material or something.

i say leave them alone, they look fine considering the age of the rig. if you want some more stripes, just add the ones you get from tree branches and rocks.

personally i have a fondness for the decals that toyotas have on them. It's kind of a "classic" look to me. don't really see them on any other manufacturer's trucks, nor do you see them on new toyotas anymore.

one thing to think about is the result of trying to remove those 20yr old decals. you might get away with it since your rig is white, but on any other color, the paint underneath will be more intense as it has not had 20yrs of sun damage and you'll still have the stripes. I tried it on my old 87 pickup which was brown and the result was worse than if i had left them. plus...some paint came up with them and some adhesive remained in spots as well. i didn't know about the rubber grinder wheel and used a heat gun + decal remover.

Cool! Thanks all, Stripes are staying for now. I will be adding some 'custom' striping when I'm off-road. When the time comes, I will order some new ones. I have the URL saved for the gentleman who makes them.

Cheers!

I like that brown Runner! The white one is exactly how mine started before I got into it. Although, I have the 'saweet' red interior.
