Installing supra maf into 98 4runner issue

Need some help please...

I installed a supra maf today into my 98 4runner.(3.4, s/c, 370cc.inj., airraid MIT, FTC1, URD 02 sen cal).

From what I read prior to, this is a plug and play-then adjust fuel map deal. 99+ need to change around the 3 middle pins.

Got it all siliconed up, turned 90 degrees, drilled new bolt holes into airbox...
fired up and it barely ran.

Acted as though the wire harness was not plugged in. Reset ECU fuse...no difference. Gas it-while parked to see what trims look like and it cuts out, shakes then dies. No time to check out fuel trims or make adjustments via FTC1, etc.

Does this sound as though I may need to change the pins around on the harness although most threads on this topic say 96-98 do not need to be changed?

thanks for any helpful suggestions!

ok i had the same problem at first

but a little electrical contact cleaner sprayed right into the hole solved the problem for me. ok... maybe a little more than a little. this is of course assuming you bought it used like most people do on here.

need to figure out supra MAF installation

no luck on the MAF cleaner I bought and used from AutoZone. Reinstalled the stock MAF and it idles fine...so I warmed up engine with stock MAF, put supra back in to see if warm engine would help but still no idle.

Im confident Ill need to move the middle 3 wires around but not sure what order.

Stock configuration is as follows from L to R:

Black w/wht stripe, Red w/blk, Yellow w/grn, Red w/wht, White w/blue.

Any ideas for the middle 3 order?

Figured out wire configuration!

wire configuration that produced an idle after installing supra maf on 98 4runner:

Moved middle three wires around so that from L to R they are:

Ylw, brown, red as opposed to stock Red, yellow, brown.

So complete wire harness from L(intake tube side) to R(airbox side) is now:

White w/blue stripe, ylw w/grn, Brwn w/blk, Red w/wht, blu w/ wht.

To move wires:

1. unplugged wire harness from MAF.
2. pryed out white plastic wire plug guide from harness w/small flat head eyeglasses type screwdriver.
3. used said s.driver to press down black plastic tab inside or wire harness where white plastic was. Do this for each wire to be removed.
4. pull on said wire from back of harness and it comes out easily.

5. Pull out ECU fuse and reset.
6. Time to make adjustments to fuel map via FTC1/laptop.

thanks to others that have written about this mod for other year trucks. Just needed to read several other threads to figure out what I had to do for my 98.
***Maf used was from a 94 SupraTT. Year for Supra Maf may be determining factor for whether or not a 96-98 wiring needs to change?

now its wont start up and idle?!

whoops....thought it worked.

Go back out to start tuning the fuel maps and it would not start up and idle.

So I thought maybe that while I did have it idling during open loop at like 9.9-10AFR is got loaded up.

So I put stock maf back on-reset the pin in wiring harness and it runs fine. Let it warm up, then gave it some revs to get any unburnt gas out.

Put Supra Maf back in, reset pins to configuration that idled fine b4 and still no start up to idle.

Strange! Should I move the outside wires around? anyone have to do that?

Gadget helped me over at CT so Ill keep posting here in case someone else has similiar issue in future.

Per His advice, I'm going to reset Fuel map cells in start up area to 11's as opposed to current 8.9s which keep trims at near zero with stock maf.

If that does not work I may have a bad used supra maf. cost me 40 bucks off of supraforums.com
