Question What Have they done to my truck (Pics Added)

Ok, Iv'e done a few searches but havent found an answer.
Question is How to tell if my Diffs are 7.5 or 8 inch. Is there a way to tell without disassembly. P.O installed a late model wider rear diff from a 4 runner and the front I believe to be stock. I would like to regear and was hoping to order the parts before i take it apart.

Also where is the 7.5 and 8 inch dimension found ( is it to the outside of the ring gear or the bolt pattern on the ring gear)

Thanks in advance

If you have a 4x4, its an 8" diff. You cannot fit a 7.5" ring and pinion in a 4x4 rear diff.

If it was a 2wd axle wouldn't it have 5 lugs?

Yes, 2wd axles are 5lug, and have a rather small differential. It would be quite noticeable.

This has a bit on the differentials. Rear axle housing is what the whole assembly (dropout third member) mounts into, and has been a couple different widths, i.e. you can have a "4cyl" diff in the more recent wider axle housing, and I believe they use different half shafts.

Hey man, glad to help. Feel weird pointing you to a different board, but those measurements aren't on my authority, so I wasn't going to take credit for measuring them.
