and i found out why her brakes arent working so well. busted axle seal. I cant seem to find the write up so can someone link me to it? also do i just go buy a axle seal kit from a dealer or what? thanks.

I would just buy the parts and take it to the local machine shop and have them do the press work..then replace the axle seal yourself..

 

I didn't need a press when I did my axle seals...just freeze them (seriously) and buy a $20 seal tap kit. They'll go right in.

 

i like the freeze idea. where i would i get this saidseal tap kit? harbor frieght? or autozone?

 

Pull the shaft out, use a screwdriver and pry the seal out.

Lightly grease the outside of the seal, stick it on, and find either some PVC pipe or metal can or something to tap it in equally. I made my own tool with a large diameter washer that matched the outer diameter of the seal, and one that matched the inner diameter and fastened them together on a bolt. Used a hammer and slid it in!

 

I got mine at Checker/Schucks Auto Supply, but I'm sure Autzone has them too. They sort of look like this, only much, much cheaper. Same idea though...

 

SC4runner, by chance do you have the sizes for those washers?

Just get something as close as possible. I used another nut on the other side to secure everything BTW.

yeah Im actually down in thousand oaks at my parents house. I just went to the do it center and made one so all is good.

I also got some seafoam and what is best place to pour in into the engine?

 

Turn on engine, run to operating temp, pull off PCV hose and slowly have it suck the seafoam into the crankcase...I use 1/3 to 1/2 bottle. Turn off engine for a while (I do it for an hour) then start up. Make sure you're clear of people because the smoke is pretty gnarly and don't want to inhale it.

The PVC hose is right next to the passenger side, front spark plug. It has a white plastic part which is attached to the top of the head, and the hose itself has a wire hose clamp that you pinch with your fingers to release.

got everthing done. came out just fine. ended up sea foaming mine, hers, mom 03 v8 and dad gs 400 haha. my moms put out more smoke then mine and my sisters combined

I can feel an immediate difference in throttle response and overall engine performance with the Seafoam...and I'm pretty sure I'm not just imagining it either.

 

yeah, my mom called me while she went and took hers for a ride and said it was much better. I think im going to do mine again in the morning and also put some in the fuel when i fill up tomorrow.
